For veterinary surgical practices

Recovery plans that survive the ride home.

Your surgical protocol works flawlessly inside the clinic. Then the patient goes home — to a fourth-floor walkup, a crate-refusing husky, or an owner who can't lift forty pounds. Paws Post Op turns a five-minute discharge intake into a staged recovery plan built for that dog, that household, and that caretaker.

Now enrolling three pilot surgical practices for our founding cohort.

The discharge gap

The protocol works in the clinic. It falls apart at home.

Most practices send orthopedic patients home with the same photocopied recovery sheet — one that quietly assumes a calm dog, an open floor plan, and an owner with two strong arms and nowhere to be. Real households don't cooperate. And when the plan fails at 9 PM on a Saturday, it's your phone that rings.

The plan assumes a different dog.

High-drive breeds with post-op energy to burn. Dogs who panic in crates. Separation anxiety that turns confinement into a nightly battle. Generic sheets have one answer for all of them: "restrict activity."

The plan assumes a different home.

Sixth-floor apartments. Slippery hardwood everywhere. Stairs between the dog and the only door to the yard. A resident cat with opinions. The living situation shapes recovery more than the sheet admits.

The plan assumes a different caretaker.

An eighty-year-old managing a seventy-pound shepherd alone. A shift worker who can't do midday meds. Caretakers want to comply — the plan just wasn't written for their reality.

The result: callback lines that spike for two weeks after every surgery day — and recovery outcomes that depend on luck as much as skill.

From intake to living room

Five minutes at discharge. A plan that fits the household.

  1. 1

    Your tech runs the intake.

While the patient recovers from anesthesia, a five-minute structured intake captures what the generic sheet ignores: breed and energy level, behavior flags like crate refusal or separation anxiety, living space and flooring, stairs, other pets, and the caretaker's physical limits.

  2. 2

    The engine builds the plan.

Paws Post Op assembles a staged recovery plan from a clinically reviewed template library — confinement setups sized to the actual home, enrichment routines matched to the breed's drive, harness and lifting guidance matched to the caretaker, all sequenced to your practice's protocol.

  3. 3

The family leaves with a playbook.

Owners walk out with a plan they can actually follow — week by week, room by room — including escalation scripts that answer "is this normal?" before it becomes a 2 AM phone call.

The platform

Everything the discharge sheet should have been.

Paws Post Op is being built hand-in-hand with pilot surgical practices. Here's the full platform our founding cohort is shaping.

Adaptive discharge intake

A structured five-minute questionnaire your techs complete before the patient leaves the building. Breed, procedure, behavior profile, household layout, other animals, caretaker capability — every answer changes the plan that comes out the other side.

Staged, procedure-specific plans

TPLO, CCL repair, FHO, patellar luxation — each procedure carries its own clinically reviewed recovery arc. Plans are staged week by week with clear progression gates, so owners always know what "on track" looks like.

Behavior-aware adjustments

Crate-refusers get room-scale confinement alternatives. Separation-anxiety cases get acclimation sequences. High-drive breeds get licking, sniffing, and puzzle-based enrichment that burns energy without loading the joint.

Household-fit logistics

Confinement setups sized to a studio apartment or a farmhouse. Traction plans for hardwood. Stair strategies, yard-access routines, and multi-pet management — the plan reflects the floor plan.

Caretaker-matched physical guidance

Harness recommendations, sling techniques, and lifting alternatives matched to what the caretaker can safely do — including plans built for owners who can't lift at all.

Escalation scripts & red-flag guide

Plain-language answers to the questions that light up your phone lines: swelling that's normal versus swelling that isn't, incision care, appetite dips, when to watch and when to call. Fewer panicked callbacks; faster catches when it's real.

PIMS integration

Plans generated and stored inside Cornerstone and ezyVet, so nothing changes about your workflow.

Callback analytics

Track your 30-day callback rate against baseline and see which plan sections move it.

Owner companion app

Medication reminders, progress photos, and healing milestones synced to the discharge plan.

For the family at home

You're not failing the plan. The plan failed to ask about you.

If you've ever sat on the kitchen floor at midnight wondering whether you're ruining your dog's surgery because she won't stay in the crate — this is for you. Paws Post Op plans are written for your actual dog, your actual home, and your actual back. Your veterinary team builds it with you at discharge, and every instruction fits the life you're living, not a hypothetical one.

Paws Post Op reaches families through veterinary practices. If your clinic isn't using it yet, join the waitlist below as a pet owner and we'll let you know when practices near you come aboard — or pass our name along to your surgeon.

Why practices join

Fewer callbacks. Better compliance. Calmer recoveries.

One number that matters

We benchmark every pilot practice's 30-day post-op callback rate — and build against it.

Five minutes, not fifty

The intake fits inside your existing discharge workflow. No new software rituals for your techs.

Your protocol, extended

Paws Post Op doesn't replace clinical judgment — it carries your protocol across the threshold into the home.

Questions

What practices ask us.

Does this replace our discharge instructions?

It extends them. Your clinical protocol stays exactly as your surgeons wrote it — Paws Post Op adapts the at-home execution to each patient's behavior, household, and caretaker, and formats it into a plan families can follow.

Who fills out the intake?

Your technicians, in about five minutes, typically while the patient is in recovery. It's structured multiple-choice — no free-writing, no new documentation burden.

Which procedures are covered?

The pilot focuses on canine stifle and hip procedures — TPLO, CCL repair, FHO, and patellar luxation — because that's where the discharge gap hurts most. The template library expands from there with our pilot practices.

Does it work with our practice management software?

PIMS integration with Cornerstone and ezyVet is on the near-term roadmap and will be shaped directly by pilot practices' workflows. During the pilot, plans generate from a standalone web intake and export cleanly to print and PDF.

Is this medical advice for owners?

No. Every plan operates inside the discharging veterinarian's protocol, and every escalation script routes owners back to your practice or their emergency hospital. Paws Post Op improves compliance with your medicine — it doesn't practice medicine.

What does the pilot involve?

Three founding surgical practices, free platform access, a baseline measurement of your 30-day callback rate, and a standing feedback loop with our team. In exchange, you shape the template library and keep a founding discount for life.
